Update on COVID-19 and NBSA Activities

Dear Baseball Families,

I hope you and your families are doing well and I want to thank you for being patient as we awaited guidance and clarity from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Town of Northborough on allowable youth activities for 2020 in response to COVID 19 concerns.  I am happy to announce that the Northboro Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA) will be able to offer baseball activities this year to most of our divisions.  We intend to offer summer baseball seasons for the AAA, Majors, and Babe Ruth (13-16YOs) Divisions under new safety guidelines in accordance with state requirements.  Additionally, we are reviewing potential options for summer AA baseball activities and we will be polling parents currently registered in this Division later this week on their interest level and potential options.  Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to cancel 2020 A Division baseball activities due to the difficulty in complying with new safety requirements for this younger age group (full refunds will be issued in the next 3 weeks).  Though this is difficult news for our younger players and their parents, we will focus on A Division activities for 2021 over the coming months.

In short, the NBSA is allowed to initiate baseball practices (with restrictions) in Phase II of the Governor Baker’s phased re-opening plan, which began today, June 8, 2020.  Additionally, we can begin to play games (with restrictions) once we move to Phase III, which would be no earlier then June 29, 2020.

The NBSA Board has been working hard at developing and implementing safety plans in preparation for a return to play under new COVID 19 safety requirements for the AAA, Majors, and Babe Ruth Divisions.  However, we need your help to provide the safest possible environment for our kids.  Please help us and our coaches by reviewing the attached practice safety guidance and reinforcing these areas with your kids (also available at link below).  Coaches will review these plans with their teams and parents once we commence practices.  Our detailed 2020 COVID 19 Safety Plans can be found on our Web Site: COVID19 Resources

We are currently reorganizing our teams and expect to begin practices over the next week.  Our intention is to start playing games as early as June 29th and have a 6-week season ending play in mid-August; however, I will again ask parents to be patient and flexible as we have many logistical hurdles to overcome this year.  Our “game play” plans will be updated for Phase III game-related activities once the state issues guidance for Phase III.

Coaches will be contacting parents/players and sharing more definitive plans and logistical information for the season throughout this week, so please review and respond to coaches as soon as possible as we have a lot of new logistical information to share and retrieve.

We are excited to get back on the baseball fields and looking forward to having some fun this summer!  I understand that every family needs to make decisions based on their level of comfort and unique circumstances.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with specific questions you may have at:  mikefwrealty@gmail.com

Thank you,

Mike Flynn
